PHUNCOAST
PARROT HEAD CLUB
of Flagler County, FL
Frequently asked questions
General
The Phun Coast Parrot Head Club is a service-oriented non-profit Jimmy Buffett social club
located on the Phun Coast of Florida. The Club was sanctioned as a Chapter of Parrot Heads in
Paradise (PHIP) on April 28, 2003. We then became the 177th Parrothead Club nationwide.
There are over 200 clubs worldwide including the US, Canada, Australia, Mexico and Belize.
A Parrot Head is a fan of Jimmy Buffett’s music who embraces a laid back tropical life style. The
name was reportedly coined in 1985 by former Coral Reefer Band member Timothy Schmit
during a concert where he noticed fans wearing tropical clothing and parrot hats.
“Party with a Purpose” is the official motto of all Parrot Head Clubs. It emphasizes that while we
LOVE to party, we are also heavily involved in fundraising for community, health and
environmental charities. Along with having phun, we support many local and national
organizations, as well as raise money for worthy causes. Some of the organizations include
Grace Church Community Pantry, the Flagler County Humane Society, the Adopt a Turtle Nest
Project, the Adopt a Highway Road Clean Up, Marineland Right Whale Watch, the Alzheimer's
Disease Association and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. We are recognized by the
IRS as a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt organization.
Jimmy Buffett Day is officially recognized in Florida on August 30 to honor the late musician,
philanthropist and songwriter. It was first declared in 2024 to celebrate his impact on Florida’s
culture and his commitment to environmental causes. Jimmy Buffett passed away on September
1, 2023 at the age of 76.
In addition, Margaritaville has designated Friday, September 4, 2026 as Jimmy Buffett Service
Day/Margaritaville Day. National and local events will be announced as they develop.
The “Funcoast” of Florida is an unofficial term for the region encompassing Daytona Beach and
surrounding coastal areas. This coastal area extends across Volusia and Flagler counties along
the east coast of Florida. Even the area code for this region (386) spells FUN. The majority of
our members come from Flagler and Volusia Counties, but we have some members from
nearby counties too. We welcome all, and yes, we are really Phun. We are proud to have
A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway running right along our coastline.
The Phun Coast Parrothead Club meets monthly for an official “Phlocking.” Phlockings are
organized events for club members to mingle, learn the latest Club news, meet new members,
and collect donations for local charities. The dates and locations vary, but they are generally
held within our geographical membership boundaries. Notices go out in advance by email and
through the Club newsletter, the Tiki Bar Times. The Club also holds planned or impromptu
social gatherings. Some get-togethers might be to hear local music, or to watch the sun
set/moon rise at the beach or other phun things. Some events are fundraisers for our various
charities. Ideas are always welcome.
